Lotus Viewing in Ueno

Before leaving Japan, I really wanted to go to the lotus viewing at Ueno park, when the massive lake that usually is nothing but water and swan boats, turns into a giant green forest of lotus plants on bloom.  We were a little bit early for the full bloom, but we did find a few lotus flowers here and there.  We also paid our respects at the shrine, cleansed our hands and mouths, ate some food, and took a walk around the park.  We passed a lady running a small stand selling tourist goods, who was happy to see us in traditional clothing, but then proceeded to ‘fix us’ since we had it all wrong, haha.  Apparently we folded our robes the wrong way.  Once way is for the dead, the other way is for the living.  Lesson learned.
